“I started out planning this mask as a Wild Woman, but as I
thought about it what came to me was a “North Wind Woman”
mask. I think it is more attractive with the lighter colours and the
white haire. The lips and face are carved in the style of the old
stone bowls found only in Coast Salish territory and going back centuries.
The North Wind in legend brings on the winter season with it’s
windy, wet and cold chills. The mask symbolizes this bringer of winter
– blowing the cold weather in as the season changes.
